Q. What is Owensboro Baseball?
A. Owensboro Baseball is a community project to bring a minor league baseball team to Owensboro Kentucky. The effort is being organized and planned by the Owensboro Baseball Committee.
Q. Why does Owensboro need a minor league baseball team?
A. Minor league baseball is an affordable, family friendly activity for citizens of Owensboro and Daviess County. The mixed-use facility will host baseball games but can host many other events and activities that will benefit residents of Owensboro. The tourism draw of the team and events at the mixed-use facility will be a boost for the local economy.
Q. What league will the team be it?
A. The committee is looking at the Frontier League for a team. The Frontier League has 18 teams from Mississippi to Canada with the Evansville Otters being our closest team. The Frontier League is not affiliated with MLB, but is a partner league.
Q. What will the team name be?
A. The planning phase of the minor league team is still in the early phases, but the committee wants to let the citizens pick and vote for the team name. This will be a great opportunity for fans to use their creativity to come up with a name and the citizens can vote for their favorite.
Q. How will this impact taxpayers?
A. The committee members are citizens and taxpayers and understand how important this concern is. The primary objective of the committee is to ensure that the facility generates sufficient revenue to cover both operational and capital expenses. A feasibility study will show if the team and facility can be successful in Owensboro.
Q. Where will the facility be located?
A. The exact location has not yet been finalized. Several potential sites in and around the city are currently under consideration, none of which are within the downtown corridor. Each site is being carefully evaluated with a strong emphasis on existing parking capacity, as minimizing the need for new infrastructure will help control overall project costs and improve financial feasibility. All locations remain preliminary at this stage, pending the results of a comprehensive feasibility study that will help determine the most viable option moving forward.
Q. Prior efforts have fallen short—what makes this different?
A. This initiative is grounded in the community’s deep and longstanding connection to baseball. Owensboro has demonstrated support for the sport at multiple levels, and that foundation positions this effort for long-term success. Additionally, nearby Frontier League teams, including those in Evansville, have helped establish regional familiarity with the league’s model.
The Frontier League has a strong track record of financial sustainability, with the majority of its teams operating profitably. Its emphasis on fan experience aligns with this project’s goals for Owensboro. While a similar concept was explored in the early 2000s, it was ultimately sidelined by competing priorities at the time. Today, the environment is more favorable, with fewer competing large-scale initiatives and a clearer path toward success.
Q. Owensboro needs more affordable family activities—how accessible will this be?
A. Affordability is a central priority. The Frontier League is widely recognized for offering a high-quality, family-friendly experience at a reasonable cost. Based on league averages, a family of four can expect to spend approximately $74 for a game, which typically includes tickets, food, beverages, and parking—an average of less than $20 per person.
Our objective is to reintroduce baseball to Owensboro in a way that is inclusive and accessible, ensuring families from all backgrounds can enjoy the experience—not just a limited segment of the community.
Q. Who makes up this committee?
A. The committee consists of local Owensboro residents with no political affiliations or ties to development interests. It is a group united by a shared passion for baseball and a commitment to the community. Their goal is to create a space where families can connect, build lasting memories, and enjoy the game together. Importantly, no member of the committee stands to gain financially from this initiative—the focus remains entirely on community enrichment.
