A. Owensboro Baseball is a community project to bring a minor league baseball team to Owensboro Kentucky. The effort is being organized and planned by the Owensboro Baseball Committee.
Q. Why does Owensboro need a minor league baseball team?
A. Minor league baseball is an affordable, family friendly activity for citizens of Owensboro and Daviess County. The mixed-use facility will host baseball games but can host many other events and activities that will benefit residents of Owensboro. The tourism draw of the team and events at the mixed-use facility will be a boost for the local economy.
Q. What league will the team be it?
A. The committee is looking at the Frontier League for a team. The Frontier League has 18 teams from Mississippi to Canada with the Evansville Otters being our closest team. The Frontier League is not affiliated with MLB, but is a partner league.
Q. What will the team name be?
A. The planning phase of the minor league team is still in the early phases, but the committee wants to let the citizens pick and vote for the team name. This will be a great opportunity for fans to use their creativity to come up with a name and the citizens can vote for their favorite.
Q. How will this impact taxpayers?
A. The committee members are citizens and taxpayers and understand how important this concern is. The primary objective of the committee is to ensure that the facility generates sufficient revenue to cover both operational and capital expenses. A feasibility study will show if the team and facility can be successful in Owensboro.
